One of the main types of forensic expert activity is the production of forensic examinations with subsequent expert opinion, which, in accordance with the requirements of criminal procedure legislation, acts as a source of evidence in the disclosure and investigation of crimes. Like any other evidence, the expert’s opinion is subject to evaluation in terms of relevance, admissibility and reliability. In case of violation of any of the listed requirements, the expert’s opinion loses its evidentiary value and passes into the category of inadmissible evidence. The article presents the results of the analysis of typical errors made by experts in the production of tracological examinations of footprints of shoe soles when solving diagnostic and identification tasks, and also suggests ways to eliminate them.
