The debut of Russian skiers-riders at the Olympic winter games was held in 1994 In 1992 the team played in the Commonwealth of independent States, composed of the athletes of the former USSR. Since then there have been major changes in cross-country skiing as a result of which the female skiers in the CIS team and then Russia gradually lost their dominant position. It is established that for the period from 1952 to 1988 Soviet athletes won 14 gold, silver and 9 bronze medals. However, at the present stage since 1992 the women's team has reduced the medal standings.
