Analysis of the Spanish budget airline Volotea's route network

In the context of macroeconomic instability caused by the negative impactof the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduction of a number of temporaryprohibitive and restrictive measures on air transportation, European low-costairlines showed a lower rate of reduction in passenger traffic compared to classic air carriers. The structure of the route network of European low-cost airlines is concentrated within the European airspace, which allowed low-cost airlines to per form a significant share of f lights during the crisis. In 2020, the largest European budget airline Ryanair sig ned an ag reement w ith the American aircraft corporation Boeing to purchase 75 units of Boeing 737 MAX, and the Spanish budget airline Volotea acquired 3 Airbus A-319-100 airliners. Based on the analysis of the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea’s route network, the article concludes on a possible scenario for the development of the European passenger air transportation market, and it identifies the main factors of low-cost airlines' growth in the post-crisis period.
