The article examines the controversy about the Christ-loving army in Russian philosophy in late 19th-early 20th centuries. The question of the existence of a Christ-loving army was initiated in the philosophical discourse by Vladimir Solovyov and was later posed with all sharpness by Russian thinkers during the First World War in civil, moral and religious contexts. The article shows that the constructions of Russian religious philosophers during the First World War can be viewed precisely as a polemic about the existence of a Christ-loving army. This controversy encompasses both religious and philosophical dimensions, as well as moral, ethical and political considerations of Russian philosophers about war in general. The need to take into account the constructions of Russian philosophers about the Christ-loving army in the Russian military doctrine is affirmed
