Influence of individual features on the peculiarities of legal consciousness of military servicemen who have committed offences during army service

Introduction. The paper contains the results of the examination of peculiarities of legal consciousness of military servicemen who have committed offences during the army service. The purpose is to reveal the specifics of legal consciousness and individual features of military servicemen who have committed offences during the army service. Маterials and Methods. The research employed theoretical methods (analysis, generalization, comparison, correlation), method of testing and mathematical analysis of the empirical data. The following techniques were used: L. А. Yasyukova’s test of legal and civil consciousness, V. М. Rusalov’s questionnaire of the structure of temperament, А. G. Zverkov and Е. V. Eidman volitional self-control questionnaire, the R. B. Cattell 10 Personality Factor questionnaire. The research involved seventy two conscripts from 18 to 25 years old, 32 of them serving a sentence in a disciplinary battalion, and 40 servicemen serving in a regular military unit. Results and Discussion. Legal consciousness of military servicemen serving a sentence in a disciplinary battalion is characterized by the low level of formation and average level of development of legal knowledge. The authors also revealed statistically significant relations between five spheres of military servicemen’s legal consciousness and some formal dynamical features of temperament, individual peculiarities and volitional self-regulation. Conclusions. The soldiers serving in a military unit primarily have an average level of formed legal consciousness, a high level of self-control, self-accusation, self-assessment and courage. The military servicemen serving a sentence in a disciplinary battalion have a low level of formed legal consciousness and an average level of developed legal knowledge, insensibility to their fellow servicemen’s assessment and lack of self-confidence in communicative situations prevailing.
