Involvement of the student youth of the Buryat ASSR into a summer work semester, 1966-1971

The article studies the history of the development of the students’ construction movement in the Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the process of acquiring its own rituals and attributes, common to the Soviet epoch. Basing on the materials of the republican archives, the author analyzes specific characteristics of student construction brigades’ activity, reviews the context of the brigades’ formation and outlines the role of regional Communist party and Komsomol Committees in the process of their evolvement. The article analyses problems and drawbacks in the work of governmental agencies and regional student construction brigades’ headquarters. It examines the forms of socio-political and educational work with students in places where the brigades were stationed. The author concludes that the construction brigade movement accumulated a tremendous historical experience that is relevant today.
