Цель данного описательного обзора - проанализировать исторические и современные аспекты проблемы суицидального поведения в воинской среде. Взгляды на самоубийства в армии, высказанные ещё Дюркгеймом, всё ещё влияют на наше понимание этого феномена, однако новые тенденции в сфере психического здоровья молодых людей становятся более существенными. Суициды в вооруженных силах (ВС) во многом зависят от престижа армии в обществе и тех стандартов, которые практикуются при призыве или привлечении к службе по контракту. Как правило благодаря отбору уровень суицидов в ВС ниже, чем среди соответствующих половозрастных групп гражданского населения, хотя из этого правила бывают исключения. Опыт организации исследований факторов риска суицидального поведения в США в последние годы, а также наблюдения военных психиатров в России говорят о том, что психическое здоровье новобранцев и военнослужащих выходит на ведущие позиции в ряду факторов риска по сравнению с социо-экономическими факторами. Во многих странах мира разрабатываются и действуют внутриармейские программы превенции, многие из них реализуются в партнерстве между ведомственными и гражданскими специалистами и построены по проектному принципу. Ядром большинства программ является стратегия психообразования, включающая освоение широкими контингентами, от командования до отдельных военнослужащих, объективных знаний о самоубийстве, о психическом здоровье, возможностях получения помощи и поддержки и умения оказать помощь товарищу при появлении признаков суицидальной угрозы. В обзоре приведён пример успешной программы превенции на основе стратегии психообразования.
