Rare tombstones from the Chudov monastery necropolis

The paper is dedicated to rare finds of white stone tombstones within the compound of the Chudov monastery in the Moscow Kremlin such as a tombstone of the early 17th century with a new epitaph made on the butt end dating to the early 18th century and a tombstone of the end of the 17th century with a painted inscription on the side. The tombstones were discovered in a redeposited layer; however, their original location in the prestigious part of the monastery necropolis near the place of the first burial of Metropolitan Alexius, founder of the monastery, and his nephew Danila Feofanovich is not questioned. Andrey Yakovlevich Pyatovo buried under the tombstone with the painted inscription was a representative of the highest governance level of Muscovy in the second half of the 17th century and a namesake, or, possibly, a relative of one of the ancient lineage of the Pleshcheyevs, descendants of the Chernigov boyar Byakont and relatives of the Metropolitan Alexius. The person initially buried under the first tombstone whose name is presumably read as Nikita Mikhaylovich, probably, belonged to this family.
