Development of the skill in proper target-focusing

Introduction. The paper considers the issues related to the ability to make a proper target-focused shot. Every police officer must possess this skill. An appropriately formed skill of a target-focused shot is the basis for its further development. Teaching this skill takes place during professional training of the specialty «Policeman» at the faculty of professional training, refresher and advanced courses. The aim was to substantiate the usage of «Spectacles-Magnifying glass» device, preparatory exercises in the methodics of teaching proper target-focusing for development and consolidation of this skill. Маterials and Methods. The authors used the material of journal articles of domestic and foreign authors, monographs, scientific methodical literature. The experiment included two groups of male trainees of the faculty of professional training, refresher and advanced courses studying in one area. Both groups were studying at the first stage of target shooting training: the experiment group (28 respondents) and control group (29 respondents). The questionnaire involved the list of the authors’ questions resulting in establishment of the trainees’ level of knowledge about target-focusing and the skill to perform proper aiming. The work with the trainees of the experimental group enabled the authors to formulate the conclusions on appropriateness of the measures taken for developing the skill of proper aiming. Results and Discussion. Estimating the results of questioning made it possible to establish the level of the trainees’ preparedness for an aimed shot; comprehension of their visualization of aiming devices was formed; the acts performed by them when target-focusing were established. Conclusions. The authors made the conclusions concerning the necessity of paying close attention to development of the trainees’ skill in proper target-focusing. For this purpose theoretical data on the target-focused shot is given; the usage of «Spectacles-Magnifying glass» device and preparatory exercises for developing the skill of the target-focused shot was substantiated.
