В прологе «Письма Аристея Филократу» упоминается неназванное сочинение об иудеях (Ep. Arist. 6: ἀναγραφὴ περὶ τοῦ γένους τῶν ’Ιουδαίων). В статье анализируются различные предположения ученых о том, что это за сочинение. В частности, подробно рассматривается вопрос о возможной идентификации Аристея - автора «Письма», и Аристея - автора сочинения «Об иудеях», фрагмент которого цитирует Евсевий через посредство Александра Полигистора (Eus. Praep. Ev. 9.25.1-4). Если это одно и то же лицо, то, возможно, в «Письме» Аристей имел в виду свое собственное сочинение об иудеях. Однако сравнение пассажей из «Praeparatio Evangelica», где упоминается и тот, и другой Аристей, а также текстологический анализ различных написаний этого имени в 8-й и 9-й книгах «Praeparatio Evangelica» позволяют сделать вывод, что для Евсевия это были два разных автора. Кроме того, в статье оценивается гипотеза, согласно которой сочинение Аристея «Об иудеях» было известно автору «Письма». Подробно анализируя аргументы Майкла Уайта [White, 2018], мы приходим к выводу, что нет достаточных оснований сближать «Письмо Аристея» с сочинением Аристея Экзегета. Что представляло собой упомянутое в шестом параграфе «Письма Аристея» сочинение (ἀναγραφή), определить вряд ли возможно. Однако, судя по эпитоме Александра Полигистора у Евсевия, произведений, посвященных иудейской истории, в Александрии было немало. Можно предполагать, что одно из таких сочинений и упоминает в шестом параграфе пролога автор «Письма».
