Pedagogical potential in service of a penitentiary operative

Introduction. The article considers everyday crime detection work performed by an operative officer of the penitentiary facilities through the aspect of pedagogical resources typical for operative work. Materials, Results and Discussion. The author underlines the relevance of a penitentiary operative officer’s engagement not only in law enforcement functions but also in the process of prisoners’ correction. The modern tendencies in penitentiary policy are described. The paper provides some statistics and states that the conditions in the penitentiary field are getting more complicated, which requires all the services and squads of the penitentiary system to make the efforts for counteracting convicts’ illegal acts, for their correction and reform. The focus is made on the penitentiary operative officer’s pedagogical competencies due to the powers consolidated in the legislation. Conclusions. The pedagogical aspect in the operative officer’s work can promote minimization of moral harm done to other people. Operative officer’s actions related to fighting crime are a persuasive, vivid pattern of conduct and of principled attitude to unlawful actions for the people around.
