This article describes the methods for developing the physical qualities of young sprinters in the preparatory period of the one-year training cycle. The experiment involved young sprinters in initial specialization who were divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group was trained according to the methodology developed by us, the test group, according to the program, developed at the sports school. The study was carried out throughout the preparatory period. In analyzing and comparing the test results after the pedagogical experiment in the experimental group and the control group, we found reliable improvements in the results for all the tests we performed in the experimental group. More remarkable improvements have occurred in the tests of speed and strength of athletes. The control group also improved, but for the most part was unreliable. The conducted research allowed draw a conclusion that for sprinters at a stage of initial specialization it is more expedient to develop all physical qualities in a complex, only in small degree to place emphasis on specifics of a type of track and field athletics, i.e. on development of high-speed and power qualities.
