In this article we analyze contemporary scientific data on pathogenic, epidemiological and clinical aspects of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) that has recently become the most prevalent liver pathology in Russia. The problem of comorbidity in patients with NAFLD is considered. The comparative analysis of invasive and non-invasive methods for diagnostics of liver fibrosis is given. The data on the prognostic value of liver fibrosis indices are summarized.
