В обзоре литературы на примере подростков с намеренными несуицидальными самоповреждениями поиск помощи показан как поведенческий навык, процесс прохождения последовательного ряда функциональных и организационных фильтров. В результате, меньшая часть наиболее тяжелых больных получает какую-либо профессиональную помощь. Детализированы многообразные факторы, отторгающие подростка от помощи, и благоприятствующих получению своевременного лечения. Более привлекательны профессиональные службы нового типа, ориентированные на психосоциальное выздоровление, и учитывающие изменчивые клиникосоциальные потребности подростка и его близких (подробнее - в части II Обзора).
