Tombstone of a Scrivener of the Novodevichy convent prikaz

The paper analyzes the inscription on a slab found at the cemetery of the Johnthe Baptist Church in the quarter of the Novodevichy Convent. The slab is a tombstone ofIvan Tarasov (+ 1714), who was a scrivener of a Novodevichy Convent Prikaz (an administrative office). The find helps clarify the biography of an ordinary civil bureaucrat wholived at the end of the 17th - early 18th centuries and discuss the issue regarding activitiesundertaken by a special governmental office that controlled practical (economic and financial) activities of the Convent.
