Liberal arts and possibility to introduce them in Russian higher educational institutions

The author analyses liberal education and education based on the model of free arts and sciences. It is proved that liberal education is an alternative to traditional professional education. It is aimed at a person's development, provides a proper humanitarian, natural science and social training and forms academic and cultural competences. Such type of education is essential for a modern man who needs to quickly adapt to the constantly changing environment.
