Purpose: Study of the criminological foundations of criminal law. Methodology: The article used historical and legal and formal legal methods. Results: The article contains conclusions regarding the issue under consideration, in particular: 1. criminal law is a system of views on the state's criminal policy, its tasks and the system of legal norms, and criminology studies the criminal law itself, as a system of norms, its history, practice of application, conducts a comparative study of the causes and conditions of crime and the prevention of crimes; 2. criminal law does not directly regulate social relations, its purpose is expressed in the protection of these special relations arising in connection with the commission of crimes; 3. Criminal law represents the starting points that criminology operates on - crime and its types, criminals and their categories, criminal law measures in the system of combating crime. Novelty/originality/value: The article has a high scientific value, since it contains the author's analysis and contains proposals for improving individual components of the issue under consideration.
