The Kontakion of St. Romanus the Melodist for Pascha: a Poetic Translation

In this article, the author discusses the possibility and use of clear, but poetic translations of the kontakia of St. Romanus the Melodist. The author addresses the complex metrical structures used in the Kontakion and their connection with the musical dimension of this genre. The author considers whether or not it is possible to use the tradition metres of Russian poetry when creating translations of the kontakia. A poetic translation of the Kontakion for Pascha is offered as an example.
