To the characteristic of S. S. Uvarov's philosophy of education

N the article in the context of intellectual biography of the outstanding scientist-humanist, antiquarian, philologist, historian, philosopher, Minister of national education of the Russian Empire (1833-1849), President of the Imperial Academy of Sciences (1818-1855) count Sergey Semyonovich Uvarov (1786-1855) are considered his views and state activity in the sphere of national education. Uvarov was one of the first statesmen in Russia who realized the huge role of education in strengthening and developing the state and was the founder of the educational system based on the historical principles of Russian statehood. The most important task of public education and upbringing he saw in “adapting the General world education to our national spirit”. The educational concept of Uvarov was to give the youth a new Patriotic Russian spirit, raising the social status of teachers and lecturers, creating an independent academic social class, the establishment of a system of pension funds and benefits, encouraging the best teachers by giving them a higher status in the Table of ranks...
