Recreation and tourism, like most other types of economic activity, involve the use of natural resources, and the natural-oriented directions of the recreational sector are characterized by hypertrophied attraction to natural resources with an inverted system of consumption, in which consumers (recreants) are brought to places of concentration of natural resources. For regions that do not belong to traditional recreational and tourist destinations, an important issue in the development of recreation and tourism is the rationale for the use of their available natural resources as recreational ones. For the regions of Western Siberia, an important group of natural resources that can be used for the development of tourist recreation, are biological - natural resources of flora and fauna. With the exploitation of this group of natural resources, several promising areas of tourism in Western Siberia-trophy, ecological, and some other forms of adventure tourism, are associated with recreational activities. However, the decision on the possibility and mode of using biological resources for recreational purposes requires a multifaceted preliminary assessment of the complex of quantitative and qualitative indicators of their condition, including spatial (geographical) analysis of the composition, volumes and availability of bioresources. In the work on the example of the Tomsk region, the features of biota of the West Siberian region as a factor of the tourist attractiveness of the territory, the factors of biodiversity formation in the region, as well as the possibility of using data on biodiversity to assess the recreational potential of the region are considered. Based on the analysis of spatial characteristics of the bioresources and biodiversity of the region, a conclusion is made about the applicability of the existing scheme of its physiographic division into regions for recreational-geographical and recreational-geoecological research at the provincial level. However, the scheme of differentiation of the natural environment of the region on the basis of biodiversity for recreational purposes can and should be substantially detailed in the organization of recreational areas and recreational tours in different parts of it, using information not only on the species composition and interrelations within the biocenoses of individual territories, but also on the interaction of biocenoses with inert components of landscapes, as well as with the anthropogenic sphere.
