The article examines implementation of fairy tale composition models in B. Pasternakʼs novel. These models were described by V. Propp in Morphology of the Folktale. The reasons for Pasternak's addressing folklore and in particular the Russian fairy tale are also analyzed. Identification of the specific forms of the fairy tale inverted models reveals intertextual relations of the novel. It is found out that poetics of Doctor Zhivago is close to the poetics of Russian fairy tales, and the plot and composition whole of the novel presents a system of algorithmically reproduced inversions of fairy-tale functions singled out by Propp.
