Шизофрения представляет собой гетерогенное психическое расстройство с достаточно высокой степенью наследуемости. Наряду с позитивными, негативными и аффективными нарушениями когнитивный дефицит является одним из основных нарушений при шизофрении. В настоящее время активно разрабатывается направление поиска промежуточных фенотипов психических расстройств. Эндофенотип представляет собой промежуточный фенотип, лежащий между генетическими предпосылками психического расстройства и комплексом симптомов. Когнитивный дефицит при шизофрении можно рассматривать в качестве эндофенотипа. Учитывая тот факт, что когнитивные функции имеют высокую степень наследуемости, на сегодняшний день большое количество генов рассматривается в качестве кандидатов на роль ответственных за когнитивный дефицит при шизофрении. Дальнейшие исследования в этой области должны пролить свет на этиологию психически расстройств, механизм формирования когнитивного дефицита при шизофрении, а также помочь разработке новых препаратов, улучшающих когнитивные функции.
