The article attempts to look at modern gender theory in the light of the main tenets of Orthodox personalism. The author poses the problem of the similarity between some of methodological values of the two concepts considering their fundamental ideological opposition. The article shows that the categories of “gender identity” and “creating gender in the process of interpersonal communication” can be viewed as reflections of the personalistic discourse on “self-determination of a person in relation to its nature” and on the “relational being of a person”. The article indicates the studies in which the discourse on personality, being combined with the discourse on gender, serves as a methodological basis for controversial theological concepts. The author notes that within the framework of the gender theory, the understanding of personhood undergoes philosophical and psychological reduction, divorces from its theological origins - Orthodox triadology and Christology - and thus turns into its own opposite, incompatible with the Christian worldview.
