A fragment of the Byzantine stone icon from Staraya Ryazan

The paper is dedicated to a preliminary publication of a fragment of a Byzantinestone icon found in Staraya Ryazan in 2017 featuring the scene of The Descent into Hell(Resurrection). This work of portable art is an example of a virtuoso mastery of stone carvingtechnique and has outstanding artistic merits. The find is, presumably, related to represenativesof traditions of the capital city elites who arrived in Russia after Constantinople had beencaptured by the crusaders in 1204.
