The geographical training is of great importance and unites the versatile knowledge of students studying in the direction of "Tourism". At the same time, there are problems reducing the quality of students' knowledge in the field of geography, associated with low motivation, the secondary importance of geographical disciplines in the curriculum, a low basic training level of students and the prevalence of traditional teaching methods. Therefore, the article is aimed at the consideration of geographical knowledge in the system of training specialists in the field of tourism, and the identification of ways of their successful formation by active methods of study. The authors highlight effective methods of active learning, illustrate them with specific examples, describe the mechanisms of the formation of a geographical idea by design and game methods. To confirm the success of active learning methods, the authors have carried out a pedagogical experiment, the mechanisms and results of which are given in the article.
