Factors influencing neologisms genesis in the English pedagogical discourse

The article emphasizes the urgency of neologisms analysis in contemporary English language pedagogical discourse. The choice of this discourse type to identify extralinguistic and intralinguistic factors of language development is explained (education has always been the main determinant of society development; its basic characteristics are openness and multi-, or to be more exact, meta-disciplinary nature that are especially relevant in the digital transformation period). The goal of this research is to single out the most relevant factors of extralinguistic reality that stimulate neologisms formation in the English language pedagogical discourse. The following general scientific and linguistic methods have been used: general scientific methods — descriptive method that includes observation, interpretation, generalization and classification of the analyzed material; linguistic methods — contextual analysis based on syntagmatic relations between the lexical units with regard to the influence of the context upon the word meaning; discourse analysis that allows to identify socio-cultural factors that influence coinage of new words and phrases in pedagogical communication. On the basis of some neologisms used in the British and American sources, it is possible to single out the following extralinguistic factors in neologisms formation: economic (grannybank, education mortgage, school poor), social (dropout factories, bullycide, bully proofing, bully-free), the factor of psychological and pedagogical environment transformation (helicopter parents, teacup) and the factor of digital transformation of education (transliteracy, Wikipedia kid). It is argued that these factors influence the sphere of modern words formation in pedagogical discourse. It is underlined that semantic and linguo-pragmatic analysis of neologisms helps, on the one hand, to reveal certain tendencies in language development, and on the other hand, to track the essential changes typical of the language community.
