Psychosocial factors involved in the adolescent suicidal attempt in Paraguay

The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between some psychosocial factors and suicidal ideation in Paraguayan adolescents aged 13 to 18 years. It was a correlational and cross-sectional field study. The participants were fifty-nine students from two public and private secondary education institutes, between the eighth grade and the third year, to whom the Life Events Scale and an Inventory of Suicidal Orientations (IOS) were applied. The results show that there is a positive correlation between the presence of events of breakdown in the family structure and suicidal ideation, in the same way as with serious family financial problems, the death of one of the parents, and the feeling of loneliness experienced.
