Dopaminergic imbalance, salience dysregulation and reward system in schizophrenia: a report on symposium held at the XXIst EPA congress

This paper provides an overview of the symposium Reward, Salience and Dopamine in Schizophrenia Patients, which was held on April 8, 2013 under the chairmanship of A. Heinz (Germany), and O. Howes (UK) during the XXI st Congress of the European Psychiatric Association (6-9 April 2013, Nice, France). This paper provides a brief review of key definitions, reports of four independent research groups from different regions of Europe and relevant publications on dopaminergic imbalance, neuroimaging findings, salience disruption and signal processing in the reward system which occur in schizophrenic patients.
